Two Sponsors Join Open Outlaw!

   We are proud to announce the addition of FAP Machine of Clearwater and GearHead Performance as Class Sponsors.

  FAP is a full service performance machine shop as well as offering production CNC services. They are offering $100 to the winner of the Sunshine Points races and $250 for the winner at the October Outlaw Race in Bradenton. They are also offering OpenOutlaw class racers 10% off any machine work or parts. They have also let us know they are building a car and plan on joining us as a class participant! Superb!

Gilmore Does it Again!

6/23/10 - Just getting around to writing up some notes regarding the June Heads up Madness at Sunshine Dragstrip. The day started off hot and got even hotter. At one point before qualifying, I pulled out the weather computer and saw 103 deg. in the shade. Adjusted altitude was near 3400ft. By far the worst air we had seen all season. As qualifying approached, track temp was around 140 deg. The wonderful track crew used the MC track water truck and a sprinkler to get the track temp down to a manageable 103deg by the first hit.

After the first round of qualifying, Ron Logan sat on top of the heap with a very nice pass running 4.076 @ 176. Second was Bill Heister with a career best 4.257 @ 165 and third was newcomer and Top Dragster regular Jeff Burnett with 4.41 @ 160.

Qualifying round 2 brought a familiar face to the top with Matt Gilmore laying down an unbelievable 4.01 @181 in this heat! Logan solidifies second with a 4.06 @ 177. Heister rounds out the top 3 with his previous 4.25 @ 165.

The first round of elims puts Slim Andrews against Gilmore. Andrews has problems and can't make the pass. Gilmore takes the victory stepping off to a 4.69 @ 154.

 Burnett draws Tom Wirth Junior and cuts a near perfect .002 light and clicks off a 4.38 @ 162 for the win with Wirth slowing to a 4.60 @ 151 using only his first kit. 

 Logan draws Bob Ewing and goes red by only a hundredth handing the win to Ewing who ran a 4.67 @ 144.

  Heister just can't get a break as he lines up against Bush in the last pair. He has trouble getting the  transmission out of reverse handing the win to Bush who runs a all motor pass of 4.77 @ 149.

Round 2 pairs Burnett up against Gilmore. Gilmore is asleep at the tree but stays with it and lays down an amazing 3.97 @ 183 to run down Burnett who runs a very nice 4.38 @ 161.

Bush puts his new mountain motor up against Bob Ewing and improves to a 4.51 @ 158 for the win. Bob steps off to finish with a 5.05 @ 145. When Steve starts feeding that monster some juice it's going to be a beast to deal with.

The finals see Matt "Kong" Gilmore against the Steve "Bone Crusher" Bush in the finals. Bush has been good on the tree and has the bottle in his pocket so Gilmore must be on his game and stay outta tire shake to win. Bush has 2 hundreths advantage at the start and chooses not to turn on the juice on the new powermill to run a 4.58 @  160 to Gilmore's winning 4.11 @ 177.

Much like Logan did last year, Gilmore has found a groove and has been almost impossible to beat this year. Can he keep the luck on his side??? C'mon out in September and see if he can keep his streak alive!

June Winner and still atop the points is Matt "Animal" Gilmore. Congrats!

Sunshine Dragstrip, our series home, has decided to up the pot a little to match the Pro-Mod purse this year. They have offered two payout schedules. One for an 8 car field and one for a 16 car field. We will not run a 16 car field unless we get enough cars to run 16 in the first round.
